According to the CEO of Raytheon Missiles & Defense, “there is no other radar with the same air defense capabilities as the SPY-6.” It is hardly surprising that the US Navy has allocated the entire $ 3.2 billion to its purchase, which is to ensure that a total of 31 ships will see this advanced radar.
Last Thursday, Raytheon Missiles & Defense was awarded a $ 3.2 billion 5-year contract to provide SPY-6 radars for 31 U.S. Navy ships. This will ultimately provide unprecedented anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense capabilities for a total of as many as seven types of US Navy ships over the next 40 years.

SPY-6 radars will not be developed from scratch, because in fact they already exist, and their development reportedly cost over 600 million dollars. Such a financial outlay, however, was worth it, because thanks to SPY-6, the ships are entering a completely new level in terms of protection against electronic war and threat detection. One of the ships has already received it under another contract. This is the destroyer USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125).
