Stadium 974 for FIFA 2022 completed. This is the first such work with containers

In October, we described for you the KAl Thumam stadium, where the Football World Cup 2022 will take place. Eight matches will be played on its turf, including the quarter-finals, while the recently completed Stadium 974 will serve as the venue for matches up to the knockout stage. The unique thing about it is that it will be dismantled and either rebuilt elsewhere, or parts of it will be recycled after the end of its activity.

Work on Stadium 974 has been completed

Fenwick Iribarren Architects has officially completed work on an innovative stadium design for the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It was dubbed the 974 Stadium (originally 974 Stadium) and was designed to be relatively easy to disassemble and rebuild. Almost 1,000 shipping containers were used for its construction, and it was carried out in the capital of Qatar, Doha, or more precisely, on the coast near the port and airport.

This one-of-a-kind stadium owes its official name to both the local area code and the number of shipping containers used for construction. Its structure consists of a steel frame with a partial roof at the top, while the containers placed on racks contain seats, stands and toilets. Interestingly, many of the containers used are the same ones that were used to transport building materials to the construction site.

The stadium seats 40,000 spectators, but those in the nature of these “metal” cans may not feel very comfortable in such a hot environment when emotions run high.
