During the DTC 2021 event, TCL showed a prototype of its first monitor with a panel that combines 4K resolution with 240Hz refresh rate, achieving the best of both worlds in terms of quality and speed.
Unfortunately there are few details about this monitor, called the 32 ″ UD 240Hz R800 “Gaming Display”. In addition to its resolution and refresh rate, it was revealed that it will have a response time of 1ms and will use a proprietary TCL compression algorithm, and also in the image we see that it will be a curved panel instead of a flat panel, although it is not know what its curvature will be.
At the moment, there are no 4K monitors that exceed 165Hz so this launch of a 4K monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate could undoubtedly revolutionize the video game industry. Still, we must also bear in mind that no modern AAA game will reach 240FPS in 4K to take advantage of its refresh rate, so we will have to wait for the next GeForce RTX 4000 “Ada Lovelace” GPUs and the Radeon RX 7000. “RDNA3” to try to achieve that goal.
Unfortunately TCL has not yet given an estimated release date for this monitor. In any case, TCL does not usually sell monitors under its brand either, but rather sells them to different OEMs so that they can put their logo on it, so possibly when it reaches the market we will not see it under this brand but under that of an OEM.
