Hi all!

Recently be quiet! has renewed its Straight Power E9 range of power supplies (the modular 580 Watts version tested here) by switching to version 10! The big modification concerns the fan which goes from a “simple” Silentwings 135 mm first generation to a Silentwings 3 135 mm, a retail version will be available later. Will the latest version of the great Straight Power series keep its promises? This is what we will see right away.

The box is like all be quiet products! sober and classy at the same time. On the front we find a photo of the product, the name of the model, the power as well as the use labels such as the 80Plus Gold certification, some specificities are also indicated including the presence of the new SilentWings 3 and the modular cables.

At the back you can see a table of the powers of the different rails, the length and number of cables available as well as a summary of the strengths of the power supply, only in English and German!

Once the box is open you might think that we are unpacking a Straight Power E9 as everything is identical (see here), everything is individually wrapped in bubble wrap, there is no need for more!

The box therefore contains 3 bags, 1 for the power supply, 1 for the modular cables as well as 1 bag containing the power cord, plastic cable ties and 4 fixing screws. It is high time to free food from its plastic!

Here is the beast! Matte black as usual from be quiet! it looks a lot like the old version, let’s take a closer look.

The grid is always made up of parallel lines which makes it much better than a honeycomb (matter of taste!), The fairing of the SilentWings 3 is no longer circular but hexagonal, there is certainly an improvement whatsoever in terms of noise level or airflow behind this change.

As usual 1 side has the be quiet! in the metal and on the other side a sticker is present displaying the different labels and the power distribution table according to the rails.

The rear is made of a honeycomb grille that covers the entire space, helping the airflow to escape to the maximum. The connectors for the modular cables are this time all black unlike the Straight Power E9 which had yellow connectors for the CPU, green and red for the PCIe.
Note that the build quality of the whole is really excellent, everything suggests that we are in the presence of a quality product, as usual with be quiet!

Modular cables

be quiet! Straight Power 10 500 CM
24-pin (fixed) 60 cm
4 + 4-pin (Processor) 70 cm
6 + 2-pin 60 cm
6 + 2-pin 60 cm
Sata + Sata + 5.25 “+ 5.25” + FDD 55 + 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 cm
Sata + Sata + Sata + 5.25 “ 55 + 15 + 15 + 15 cm
Sata + Sata + Sata + Sata 55 + 15 + 15 cm

The number of cables present is sufficient for 99% of market configurations, the number of Sata connectors should be sufficient as long as we do not have a very loaded storage server. Only 2 PCIe connectors are present which is a bit of a shame, no SLI or Crossfire with the 500 Watts version (4 connectors from the 600 Watts version) which shouldn’t be a problem anyway.
The cables are all very well sheathed and the build quality is present, once again!

The Straight Power 10 500 CM therefore offers an 80Plus Gold certification capable of reaching 92% maximum efficiency at 50% load. The SilentWings 3 fan is given for much lower noise pollution (15 dB) than its little brother equipping the E9 version (21.7 dB) which should logically be a pleasure for the ears given the low noise level of the E9 . Of course all the protections are rigorous here. The dimensions are classic and the weight is average too.
The 5-year warranty including 1 year on site as well as a price of € 99.90 could make this power supply a very good choice if it proves to be efficient in the tests, let’s see that right away!

The test platform

Food be quiet! Straight Power 10 500 CM has been tested on the configuration below:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 875K @ 3,2 Ghz
  • Motherboard: Asus P7P55D
  • Memory: Kingston HyperX 4 x 2 Go 1600Mhz
  • Hard disk: WD Raptor 150 Go
  • Graphic card: Sapphire Toxic 5850

The test protocol

The core i7 875K has been slightly overclocked to 3.2Ghz. The readings in charge were taken during an OCCT Power Supply test, the readings at rest were taken after 15mins on the desk.

The power supply has been tested against:

  • be quiet E9 580CM (tested here)
  • be quiet! L8 Pure Power 500 (tested here)
  • Corsair CS450M (tested here)
  • Seasonic S12 600 (de 2006)
  • Seasonic G550 (tested here)
  • Seasonic X650
  • Seasonic P660 (tested here)
  • Seasonic Platinum 460FL (tested here)
  • Silverstone NightJar 520 (tested here)

The consumption

Before we begin, let’s take a look at how the power supplies perform compared to the be quiet! Straight Power 10 500 CM, indeed the various 80Plus certifications will directly influence consumption, so this will be a good way to have concrete results. Only the S12 600 does not have an 80Plus certification because it did not yet exist at the time of purchase (but the following versions of this power supply had the classic 80Plus certification, so 80% / 80% / 80% to 20% respectively / 50% / 100% load).

The be quiet! Straight Power 10 500 CM is very good here and is on par with the other 80 Plus Gold power supplies with 78 Watts at rest and 349 Watts under load, a few Watts less than the E9 it replaces! There is not a huge difference with Platinum power supplies.
Note that consumption has been recorded to take for the complete configuration.

The tensions

Once again very good for the Straight Power 10 500 CM, the 12V goes from 12.1 at rest to 12.07 under load, the 5V goes from 5.09 to 5.08 and the 3.3V from 3.3 to 3 , 29! Stability is therefore essential here and it is once again a little better than the E9 it replaces.
So far the results of the last feed from be quiet! are very good but there is still a part and not least, the noise level! Let’s see this right away.

Noise pollution

Attention : Part to be taken with a grain of salt, unfortunately not having access to the appropriate equipment and using an android application to take the readings the measurements below are only indicative! The readings were taken 15cm from the feed.

Nerf of war for be quiet! the sound level of this Straight Power 10 500 CM is quite simply exceptionally low, it simply remained silent whether at rest or when charging! Impossible to distinguish it from the sound level of the room and is therefore at the level of a passive power supply, friends of silence as well tell you that this power supply will not disappoint you!

Here we are at the end of this test, what to say about be quiet! Straight Power 10 500 CM?
It replaces an already excellent E9 which didn’t have a lot of flaws apart from maybe a slightly short 8-pin CPU cable which was solved with the Straight Power 10 by going from 55cm to 60cm which should be enough for a very large part of the boxes on the market.
The build quality is excellent, the voltages show very good stability and consumption is of course very contained thanks to the 80Plus Gold certification. Noise pollution, or rather their absence, will make this Straight Power 10 an excellent candidate for a quiet PC.

Offered at a price of € 99.90 and accompanied by a 5-year warranty (including 1 year on site) the latest be quiet! is sure to be a great choice for a gaming setup.

The +

  • Silence
  • Stability
  • Build quality
  • Guarantee 5ans
  • SAV be quiet!

Many thanks to Armelle from be quiet! which allowed me to do this test.

Where to find the be quiet! Straight Power 10 500 CM?
