Test – Scythe Mugen 5 |Specs | Price

It has been a few months now that I had not had a product from Scythe, so here is the latest product from the brand, the Mugen 5! New model of the Mugen range (here is the test of the 4 PCGH edition here) we have a new 12 cm Kaze Flex fan on the program as well as no less than 6 heat pipes. As usual with the brand, the price is not excessive with the 48 € announced, when and if it is found in France, let’s see it all more closely!

We are faced with a cooler which is imposing but while logically remaining compatible with the vast majority of motherboards and boxes. Indeed with 15.4 cm high it should have no problem with the side panel, the 13 cm wide should allow it not to block the first PCIe port as can be seen on the larger models. With 890 grams it weighs its weight without going to extremes such as the Noctua NH-D15 and its more than 1.1 kg.
The Mugen 5 offers extensive compatibility of different sockets, ranging from the old 775 to 2011 through the 115x at Intel and the AM2 / 3 (+), FM1 / 2 (+) at AMD, it is however a shame not to not have AM4 compatibility advertised, even though motherboards are not available.
The ventilation is entrusted to a brand new Kaze Flex 120 PWM fan of the brand, operating at a speed ranging from 200 to 1200 RPM, which should ensure a low noise level, even inaudible especially at rest, but this will be seen in the tests. ! The bearing is of the “FDB” type, therefore quieter than a ball bearing while having a long life, announced at 120,000 hours (ie more than 13.5 years!). The fan will be responsible for evacuating the heat via the 38 aluminum fins crossed by 6 heat pipes.
Offered at a price of around 48 € the Scythe Mugen 5 display rather good characteristics, even if the practice will be much more telling 😉

Gone are the days of colorful boxes that fart in all directions at Scythe. Now we are entitled to something much more sober, a photo of the beast in profile as well as the logo, the model name and the compatibility of the sockets on the front face. At the back the warranty information is present.

On the sides there is a table of technical characteristics, as well as diagrams showing the exact dimensions, at least no doubts!

When opening the box, we find a cardboard box containing the bundle, under which is the brand new fan. Below the latter is the radiator surrounded by foam, transport should not be problematic.

The bundle offers everything you need for assembly, the universal backplate, 4 fasteners for fans (the one supplied and one optional), the necessary screws, an installation manual, a tube of thermal paste and even a long screwdriver , the latter being very practical for those who do not have what it takes!
