The AMD Ryzen 9 5900X with B2 stepping has lower consumption and temperature

AMD has released, without any special announcement, the new B2 revisions for its Ryzen 5000 processors. This B2 stepping includes processors with Zen3 architecture: Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X, Ryzen 9 5900, Ryzen 7 5800X, Ryzen 7 5800, Ryzen 5600X, and the Ryzen 7 5700GE APU. At first, sites like Tom’s Hardware reported that these reviews hit the same frequencies and TDP as the original models. Because of this, they assumed that they did not offer any improvement over the original models. In an optimization to improve the manufacturing process, AMD could make more Zen3 chips with revision B2 than it can make with the previous B0.

However, an overclocker managed to test an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and demonstrate the improvements that this new review offers. It’s about Shamino, who used an Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme motherboard to push the cores up to 5150 MHz. For this it used a liquid cooling system and achieved 9ºC less than the B0 version. In addition, the processor consumes 30W less despite reaching 60MHz more in the Prime95 test. This shows a great advantage over revision B0, especially considering that it allows the use of DDR4 memory up to 4100 MHz.

This is just an isolated test of one of the processors, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X. It remains to wait for more successful tests to be carried out. But this first impression shows us that a more optimized manufacturing process is used that has a favorable impact on temperature and consumption.

How about the performance of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X processor revision B2?
