The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X shows off its performance

It looks like the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X will not only change the mileage “games for cores“, But also the AMD naming scheme. What can I say – 32 cores, 3.4 GHz and performance beating all current HEDT processors.

Traditionally, information on this subject does not come from manufacturers, but from ordinary leaks. This time it is “bushy“HKEPC website, which provided a handful of screenshots informing us about the power of Ryzen Threadripper 2990X. First, a screenshot from the CPU-Z program. This one shows that the processor can boast 32 cores and 64 threads with a base clock of 3.4 GHz. Its L3 cache is 64MB with a maximum TDP of 250W.

This resulted in a round result of 6243 points in the multi-thread Cinebench test at 4 GHz. Achieved probably automatically, thanks to the technology used by AMD like XFR. The 4.5 GHz level combined with the required voltage unfortunately caused throttling, which was not counteracted even by the Corsair H150i Pro AIO water cooling. So the top level turned out to be 4.12 GHz with the result of 6399 points.

That’s a lot. A lot. Especially if we compare this result to Intel’s 7,334 points. But it was supported by … an industrial refrigerator. Either way, the upcoming Threadripper series will definitely feature two layouts. I am talking about the 24-core Ryzen Threadripper 2970X and the hero of this post, i.e. the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 2990X. It is quite likely, however, that AMD plans to release more chips with another set of cores by changing the nomenclature. The price and exact release date remain unknown.
