In the chaos of issues related to COVID-19, the Android smartphone market is alive and well and continues to offer us surprises and emotions. The last few weeks have seen the arrival of the Galaxy S20 range, of which S20 Ultra is the "leader", and OPPO Find X2 Pro, a particularly interesting device. There was no shortage of news also in the field of folding, given that the time for Mate Xs has now come. In the coming days we will then get to know the Huawei P40 range and other intriguing devices (such as the international version of Xiaomi Mi 10). In short, enthusiasts and professionals cannot certainly complain. Let's go, therefore, to take stock of the situation on best top-of-the-range Android smartphones in March 2020. We remind you that the prices taken into consideration are only those present on Amazon Italy or on the official websites of the manufacturers.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S20 range has finally arrived on the market, so we analyzed the top of the range S20 Ultra as it should have been. The latter convinces mainly because of the exceptional screen with 120 Hz refresh rate, the excellent photographic sector (even if the night performance has some limitations), the software experience guaranteed by the One UI 2.1, the excellent performance and a complete connectivity compartment (complete with 5G and Wi-Fi 6). As for the painful sides, the autonomy guaranteed by the 5000 mAh battery is good, but we would have expected better results. Too bad also for some deburring at the release sensors, which every now and then lose some detection, and for several flaws on the software side (we refer above all to the management of the cameras at night). For the rest, the price of 1379 euros on Amazon Italy (12 / 128GB, availability from 11 April 2020) could turn up the nose to a certain type of user, but there is no doubt that the Galaxy S20 Ultra represents, under many points of view, one of the best high-end solutions on the market.
OPPO Find X2 Pro
Another device that is particularly intriguing to those who are used to targeting the top of the Android range is OPPO Find X2 Pro. The Chinese company's solution, announced just a few weeks ago, has amazed critics and audiences especially because of its exceptional screen with refresh rate of 120 Hz and for the ColorOS 7.1, the software customization that has finally adapted to Western needs, filing many of the flaws that have been criticized in previous versions. The smartphone also convinces from the point of view of constructive solidity, performance, autonomy, good photographic sector and complete connectivity department (present USB Type-C 3.1 port, NFC, Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac / ax and Bluetooth 5.1).
For the rest, the main flaws are found in some smudging on the video side, in the absence of Dual SIM (not even eSIM), wireless charging and in the price not exactly the most contained. OPPO Find X2 Pro is in fact sold for 1199 euros (12 / 512GB). The actual availability is expected from 8 May 2020. The cost is certainly not suitable for everyone, but OPPO has really managed to outdo this time. Google Pixel 4 XL
The "Pixel Experience" has always been a distinctive element in the crowded smartphone sector. The Nexus series is remembered with great nostalgia by fans, but lately Google is managing to return, as far as possible, to the glories of the past. Pixel 4 XL perfectly embodies the vision of the Californian company: innovation and software support. Arrived in our country at the end of 2019, the smartphone brought with it features such as astrophotography, Motion Sense, Live Caption and instant transcription from audio to text. They represent a potential revolution in everyday life and go to experiment in fields that previously had only been "sketched" by other companies. On the other hand, behind Android there is Google and the Mountain View company knows how to use the magic of the code better than any other manufacturer.

In any case, the main strengths are to be found in the excellent build quality, in the software optimization, in the top performances, in the excellent screen with 90 Hz refresh rate and in the exceptional photographic sector.
Pixel 4 XL is not a perfect smartphone: the audio jack for the headphones is missing, the internal memory is not expandable, the autonomy is only average and to take advantage of the Dual SIM you have to go for an eSIM (the latter aspect is somewhat discussed, some see it as an asset, others do not).
The connectivity sector is complete: there are Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 5, USB Type-C 3.1, wireless charging and NFC. Pixel 4 XL is currently sold at a price of 899 euros on the Google Store (model 6 / 64GB).
ROG Phone 2
If you are a lover of mobile gaming, then you can only turn your gaze to ASUS ROG Phone 2. It is in fact the best smartphone to play on the market today. ASUS ROG has managed to fix practically all the "uncertainties" that plagued the predecessor, creating a smartphone that has convinced critics and the public. The smartphone gives its best in above average performance, in the gaming side features (such as Air Triggers), in the screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and in excellent autonomy (6000 mAh battery). ROG Phone 2 therefore "breaks" the barriers of gaming, becoming an interesting device also for other types of use.
The main flaws are instead to be found in the lack of waterproofing, wireless charging and non-expandable memory. For the rest, the connectivity sector is excellent: USB Type-C 3.1 port, NFC, audio jack for headphones, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac / ad are in place. ROG Phone 2 is currently sold at a price of 699 euros on the official website (model 8 / 128GB). Special mention: Folding smartphones
The era of folding smartphones has now also begun in Italy. This month the new arrival is Huawei Mate Xs, device sold for 2599.90 euros on Amazon Italy (8 / 512GB). Then there is the Motorola RAZR, officially available in Italy from early February. The smartphone is sold for 1599.90 euros via TIM (6 / 128GB). We remind you that we are talking about a device that only supports eSIM (therefore no physical SIM). According to many it is one of the least successful leaflets. Not to be underestimated even the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, folding arrived in Italy on February 14, 2020 at a price of 1520 euros on the official website (8 / 256GB). It is a very interesting model, which has been praised, among other things, also for the form factor and for the small external screen that is used to display basic information, from the hour to the notifications relating to the calls. Market choice: Huawei P30 Pro
According to the ranking of Bestsellers smartphones on Amazon Italy, many are focusing on Huawei P30 Pro in this period. The reason seems obvious: it is the latest top of the range of the Chinese company to have Google services. In short, a device that can be a good deal for those who love the experience offered by Huawei devices but do not want to leave the Play Store and associated services. In any case, we are talking about a smartphone that arrived in Italy in the first half of 2019, which was praised above all for its excellent photographic sector, able to take advantage of a 10x hybrid zoom (digital up to 50x). The main flaws are to be found in some burrs related to the various unlocking modes and the lack of the audio jack for headphones.
For the rest, the connectivity compartment is complete, from the USB Type-C 3.1 port to the NFC, via wireless charging. Also consider that we are talking about a smartphone that has been released for some time now, so do not expect performance on par with today's top of the range (although they are still good for many uses).
Huawei P30 Pro is sold at a price of around 530 euros on Amazon Italy through resellers (model 8 / 128GB).
Upcoming arrivals: Huawei P40, Xiaomi Mi 10, Nokia 8.3 5G and Royole Flexpai 2
The next few days will see the arrival of several interesting smartphones in the high end of the market. The "highlight" event will be the presentation of the Huawei P40 range, which will take place on March 26th. The first rumors describe the presence, in addition to the previously announced P40 Lite, of the P40 and P40 Pro models. The latter should have a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 3160 x 1440 pixels, a Kirin 990 5G processor and 8 / 12GB of RAM. Another highly anticipated event is the one in which the international variants of the Xiaomi Mi 10 range, already announced abroad. The day to be marked on the calendar in this case on March 27th.
