The difference between DDR4 and DDR5 is zero in Alder Lake, at the moment it will not be necessary to change your memories

One of the main concerns of many users regarding the new Alder Lake processors was the need to upgrade to the new DDR5 memories, which can cost up to twice as much as a DDR4 kit of similar capacity, increasing the cost much more. update. Well, we have good news for these users: The difference in performance between DDR4 and DDR5 is practically nil, so if they have a good DDR4 memory kit they can continue to use it and they will obtain excellent performance anyway.

Overclock3D performed tests with DDR4-3600 C16 memories versus DDR5-5200 C38 memories, comparing what are practically the most popular kits of each technology. As we can see, the performance in both Cinebench R20 and R23 is practically identical between both types of memory, both in the Core i9-12900K and in the i5-12600K.

In gaming we can see that the difference is also practically nil and that in some cases even DDR4 offers more performance than DDR5, so you can rest assured that there will not be any problems in using a good DDR4 kit in Alder Lake.

The Overclock3D data is supported by the KitGuru tests, which compare the performance of the DDR5-5200 C36 against various DDR4 options, and as we see, the difference in performance is practically nil.

In games there is also no notable difference in favor of DDR5, and in fact it can even be surpassed by some DDR4 kits, confirming that there is no noticeable difference at least with the current DDR5 kits. In this way, they can continue to use their current memory kit and save the extra cost of moving to DDR5, making the upgrade to this new generation much cheaper.
