The first Windows 11 patch further worsens the performance of Ryzen CPUs

Yesterday, October 12, Microsoft released the first cumulative updates for the new Windows 11 operating system, since its release on October 5.

The company’s monthly update packages for Windows are unofficially called “Patch Tuesday” updates, as they are scheduled to ship on the second Tuesday of each month.

This patch managed to further degrade the performance of Ryzen CPUs, as the latencies of the L3 cache increased further.

Shortly after the release of Windows 11, AMD and Microsoft jointly discovered that Windows 11 is poorly optimized for AMD Ryzen processors, with significantly higher L3 cache latencies, and the UEFI-CPPC2 (preferred kernel mechanism) does not work. .

With all this the Ryzen CPUs lost 15% performance

AMD posted a statement on its social media where it mentions that patches have been developed for the two issues and specified the dates when the patches will be released. The one that fixes the Preferred Core bug (UEFI-CPPC2) will be released on October 21. The L3 cache latency error will be fixed via Windows Update, its release is scheduled for October 19.

If the rumors about the late October / early November release dates of the 12th Gen Intel Core “Alder Lake” processors are true, then the situation with these patches will have a direct impact on AMD.

Processor reviewers will be forced to use Windows 11 for “Alder Lake” testing, as the new operating system reportedly performs better with Intel’s heterogeneously designed cores.

The change to Windows 11 will force all processors to be tested, including AMD Ryzen chips, with this new operating system, and with these performance problems, which can reduce performance by up to 15%, the results of the processors AMD’s 12th Gen Core release reviews could be affected.
