We have just been officially informed that the work on the MC-130J Commando II has started. This American seaplane is primarily designed to expand the general landing capabilities of the iconic cargo plane.
MC-130J Commando II, as a unique American seaplane
For the US Air Force, Lockheed Martin’s C-130J Super Hercules is one of the most important transport aircraft in history. In a career spanning more than two decades, this plane has even landed in the Arctic, responsible for medical, military and cargo transportation. However, when converted into the MC-130J Commando II, this American seaplane will take its capabilities even higher, with the ability to land on 71% of the planet’s surface.

As a seaplane, however, the MC-130J Commando II will also be able to land on land, but there is still a long way to go before seeing it. Currently Air Force Special Operations Command works with a group of industrial partners and plans to implement a five-phase rapid prototyping schedule to demonstrate operational capability in just 17 months.

It is expected that upgrading the C130 transport aircraft with seaplane capabilities will further enhance the aircraft’s versatility. In addition, it will reduce its dependence on landing sites, which are potential targets during the conflict.
