The new NVIDIA H100 PCIe 80 GB with GPU Hopper appears in Japan with a price of 30 thousand dollars

NVIDIA’s new Hopper architecture for data centers, recently announced at the GPU Technology Conference, is now available for purchase in Japan, though NVIDIA has yet to officially launch the product. The price? Nothing more and nothing less than about US$33,000, about 6.6 million pesos per BLUE.

According to the web Hermitage Akihabara, GDEP Advance is a Japanese store specializing in HPC components and has the NVIDIA H100 80 GB PCIe in stock.

The new Hopper GPU was not expected until the first half of this year. NVIDIA hasn’t even released a price for the H100, which makes selling the card in Japan even weirder.

The first NVIDIA GPU to use TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process has very strong specs, and no less so as the hardware is geared towards very heavy workloads. The H100 PCIe has 114 SMs, which guarantees 14592 CUDA cores. The 80GB of HBM2e memory runs at 2Gbps on a 5120-bit interface, delivering 2TB/s of bandwidth. All this consuming 350W.

The same GPU has an even more powerful variant, the NVIDIA H100 SMX5, which does not use a PCIe interface and is equipped with HBM3 memories, has more CUDA cores, about 16896 and more tensor cores, 528 against 456 of the PCIe version, among other configurations. The higher the power, the higher the consumption, since it has a TDP of 700W.

The price is scary, but it is worth remembering that these solutions are for a very specific market, in which companies can and need to bear these costs.
