The Oculus Quest 2 will not be available for purchase due to skin irritation issues

Oculus Quest 2

Oculus announced that they have stopped sales of their glasses Oculus Quest 2 due to a problem with the facial interface foam glasses, indicating that a small percentage of users have experienced skin irritation when using it. As a solution, the company will relaunch the glasses with a new facial interface of sylicon, and will replace this element at no cost to all users.

When they are released again in mid-August, the company indicated the launch of a new 128GB model with the silicone interface at the price of the 64 GB model, which has been discontinued.

“To our Oculus community,

Since the Oculus Quest 2 began shipping, we’ve heard stories from people about the experiences they have unlocked: connecting with family and friends through gaming, staying productive with colleagues, and finding joy and pleasure in fitness. . And we’ve heard from developers of all sizes who are growing a successful business by creating new VR content and experiences.

As more people entered VR with Quest 2, We started receiving reports that a very small percentage of Quest 2 customers experienced some skin irritation after using the removable foam facial interface that comes with the Quest 2 and is also sold separately, including as part of the Fit Pack. Although the percentage of reports is small and the majority of reported cases are minor, we are committed to ensuring that our products are safe and comfortable for all who use them.

Today we are introducing a new silicone cover to all customers globally, including as part of a voluntary recall of the removable foam facial interface in conjunction with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada. Additionally, we have contacted regulatory bodies around the world and are taking the additional step of temporarily suspending sales of the Oculus Quest 2 worldwide as we work to include the new silicone covers in all packages. The new silicone case fits over the removable foam facial interface, and as of August 24, all of these glasses will come with a silicone sleeve included in each box.

Anyone who already owns a Quest 2 or Fit Pack can receive a free silicone sleeve. To find out how to order a silicone case, Click here.

We took reports of skin irritation very seriously as soon as we became aware of them and, starting in December, we quickly conducted a comprehensive investigation including advice from leading dermatologists and toxicologists. These experts have advised that skin irritation can occur in some segments of the population from many household items – even things like tomatoes or shampoo – and that the rates we have observed are in line with expectations.

Our investigation determined that our manufacturing process is safe, which means that no unexpected or hazardous contaminants were found on the Oculus Quest 2 foam interface or in the manufacturing process. “
