The RTX 4090 would consume up to 800W, it would arrive in September

Although the rumors had been indicating that we would see high consumption in the new RTX 4000 series, all indicated that the superior model would be between 450W and 500W, although according to new information, that will be what the RTX 4080 will consume, and the RTX 4080 Ti and the RTX 4090 will consume much more, reaching up to 800W in the case of the latter.

The first information about was revealed by famous leaker Greymon55 who successfully leaked many of the recent AMD and Nvidia releases. According to what he revealed, he heard that the RTX 4000 will arrive in September, and that there are models with TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 450W, 650W and 850W, although he clarified that these are not the final specifications and may vary.

Information was backed up in the comments by the leaker “kopite7kimi”, another well-known leaker who got many of his claims right. According to him, although it is a rumor, he heard that the RTX 4080 will consume 450W, the RTX 4080 Ti will consume 600W, and the RTX 4090 will consume 800W, so there are already several sources that indicate this.

After hearing these rumours, it makes a lot more sense to launch the new PCI-E 5.0 GPU power connector that can deliver up to 600W per connector. With this connector we can power an RTX 4090 with only two connectors, while with the classic 8-pin PCI-E connectors of 150W per connector we should need five of these connectors, or even six, which is clearly not feasible.

It will be interesting to see if more details about these rumors come out in the future, and to see if they are correct or just some mistake on the part of their sources. Really taking out a GPU that consumes 800W would be crazy not only because of the power source required but also because of the heat generated, since it will take a much more complex cooling system than the current ones to dissipate so much heat. To find out if it is true or not, we will have to wait a few more months, so stay tuned to find out as soon as more news comes out.

What do you think about these rumors of a consumption of 800W in the RTX 4090? Do you think it would be justified if it has a very large jump in performance compared to the RTX 4090 or in any case, so much consumption is unjustifiable?
