The world’s first eVTOL race. Watch the Airspeeder Mk3 duel

We didn’t wait long to see the fruits of Alaud Aeronautics’ work in practice, because this startup is over 4 years old. Barely four months after the release of the recordings from the electric racing tests of the “great drones”, the company decided to make a lot of noise once again, revealing the world’s first eVTOL race using the Airspeeder Mk3 pair.

To simply call eVTOL “great drones with electric motors” makes sense given their form, but keep in mind that they usually have a place for a human being, whether as a pilot or as a passenger. The Airspeeder Mk3 is similar – they have an ordinary cabin, but in this race they were remotely controlled for safety. The race, however, was more of a test run as it was held as part of pre-season preparations for a full series of F1-style air races to be held later this year.

However, these were not the first tests, because those in flight already took place in June, when the Mk3 octocopter first took to the air over the desert in South Australia. These eVTOLs are made mainly of carbon fiber and are able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds, while their maximum ceiling is 500 meters.

As part of the above race, a pair of Mk3s were piloted by nearby Alauda Aeronautics engineers. The race itself was short, just 300 meters at an altitude of 15 meters. The winning vehicle reached a top speed of 155 km / h.
