The world’s largest floating offshore wind farm

Kincardine Offshore Wind, the world’s largest floating wind farm at the moment, has just been installed, and although it has not yet been launched, it will be installed at a later date.

This Kincardine offshore offshore wind farm is developed by Kincardine Offshore Wind, but in practice it is the responsibility of Cobra Wind from Madrid, the company that took care of the design, supply and engineering envelope. Before the farm was built, however, the five floating foundations were manufactured by the Navantia-Windar consortium in Spain and then shipped to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

It was only there that the final wind turbines were installed on these foundations, and we are talking here about five Vestas turbines with a capacity of 9.525 MW each, which joined the 2-megawatt turbine, which has been operating for almost three years. They are located 15 kilometers off the coast of Aberdeen, Scotland, and together come down to a 50-megawatt installation, which was enough to make it the world’s largest floating power plant.

When it goes live and supplies electricity, Kincardine will collectively generate up to 218 GWh of electricity per year, enough to power some 55,000 Scottish households (via Offshore Wind).
