Microsoft is putting the batteries with its App Xbox for Windows, and one of the new features allows PC gamers to know if a game will work well with your hardware before you download it.

The feature is currently in the testing phase and is limited to certain games before it is rolled out to all users of the Xbox app, but will allow many players as well. don’t waste time downloading a game that wouldn’t work well on your system, and more when they really do not know the hardware of your computer, making it impossible to know if the requirements are met. This would also help to play it directly by streaming instead of downloading it.

There are a number of games that are not yet tagged and that simply display a prompt “performance check not yet available“, which suggests that the Xbox app is not limited to checking your PC’s system requirements. It appears that Microsoft is creating your own database on how PC games work.

Microsoft hasn’t officially detailed this new performance check yet, so it’s unclear if the label is based on a game’s minimum specs, recommended specs, or other system information. If the ratings are reliable, it could be an easy alternative to using third-party tools and websites like ‘Can You Run It’.
