Today’s SSDs will last a thousand years of use?

All people who transfer a lot of data on their disks dream of the day when archaic HDDs will be forgotten. All the moving parts they contain make them break very quickly. The Tech Report website decided to check how durable SSD disks are.

The test result is surprising. 10 SSDs were tested, among them were Kingston’s HyperX 3K, Samsung’s 840 Pro and Intel’s 335 series. Each of them was constantly writing and overwriting 10GB of data consisting of small and large files.

Four drives fell before they hit one petabyte (one million gigabytes) of processed data, but still significantly exceeded the limits set by manufacturers. Items from Kingston and Samsung they break all records in this matter. They regrinded as much as 2 petabytes of data and continue to work! Considering that the average user will be able to save and overwrite up to a few terabytes of data, that’s the service life of these two companies’ drives is around a thousand years. Of course, the components of such a drive would fall apart a long time ago, but the test shows that you can almost always rely on SSDs. However, I hear from users of these discs that they can crumble after just 2 years.

As you can see, the tests are tests, and the actual use is a completely different pair of wellies.
