TU104 chip with GeForce RTX 2080 in the lens

Were you curious about what exactly will sit under these monstrous coolers in the upcoming Nvidia graphics cards? Previously, we could have a look at the empty GeForce RTX 2080 laminate, and now TechPowerUp has come into possession of photos of the same laminate, but with the addition of the main character – the TU104 chip.

This is exactly the TU104-400A-A1, which will be the heart of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 and the successor to its predecessors. I am talking about GP104 and GM204, with which it shares the same size of the “package”, ie the graphics core itself and the surrounding elements. However, compared to such a GP104 (I am presenting a small comparison below), the size of the GPU is simply huge! Using a 12nm process, this indicates that the core will be able to boast more transistors than the GP102 with the GTX 1080 Ti. This is obviously an advantage – the disadvantage is its size which should be reduced with a 7nm process.

The power section and connectors, video outputs, or the arrangement of memory chips have not changed. We are still dealing here with power supply from the 6- and 8-pin PEG plug, the VRM section in the 8 + 2 format and eight GDDR6 memory chips with a total capacity of 8 GB. In turn, on the track, three DisplayPort connectors, a single HDMI and a lonely USB type-C for the VirtuaLink standard are waiting for us.
