Ultrasound to enrich the VR experience. With Emerge Wave-1 you will feel the virtual surroundings better

In a quest to develop a better virtual reality (VR) experience, Emerge has created and has just presented the Emerge Wave-1 to the world. It is a device that, when connected to a VR set, emits ultrasonic waves, allowing users to feel virtual objects.

The Emerge Wave-1 ultrasound panel is to bring the VR experience to a new, previously unknown level

In fact, the Emerge Wave-1 takes the form of a panel measuring 26 x 29.8 cm, which is placed on the table and emits a three-dimensional volume of ultrasound into the space just above it. The range reaches up to 0.9 meters above the panel and extends at an angle of 120 degrees around it, emitting ultrasound in the form of feedback at the right moments, which is designed to reproduce the virtual objects seen through the VR headset. The company even claims that the Emerge Wave-1 allows users to feel each other when shaking hands or giving high fives.

The Wave-1 system is synchronized with the Emerge Home application, which will contain a range of games and social applications specially developed for this system. However, it is difficult to imagine that one panel emitting ultrasounds will be so effective, but the users of the specially prepared games are to convince about it.

If all goes according to plan, the kits, purchased for $ 450, will be in the hands of the first customers in April. Will it succeed? We hope, because haptics is a fairly forgotten area on the VR market, and the Wave-1 can be turned into reality if it raises funds during the next month on Kickstarter. However, there are gaps in this project, including even too few games in which this set can be used, as it all comes down to the Emerge app ecosystem.
