We look under the hood of the iPhone 13 and iPad Mini, i.e. a few words about the Apple A15 Bionic

The premiere of the iPhone 13 has just taken place, giving us a new injection of information about the Apple A15 Bionic system, which will be used not only by these new smartphones, but also, among others, iPad Mini.

What does Apple A15 Bionic provide, which is the next after A14 Bionic SoC?

Apple A15 Bionic, as a direct successor to A14 Bionic, is produced using 5 nm TSMC technology, thanks to which the manufacturer has stuffed as many as 15 billion transistors into it. The configuration of this SoC includes a 6-core central processor, two of which are high-performance and the other four are energy-efficient.

Next to them, there is the 5-core graphics processor that is most efficient among all “smartphone GPUs” (only in the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, because others will receive a 4-core GPU), or a special neural engine. Ultimately, the SoC can perform as many as 15.8 trillion operations per second, which is 50% more efficient in calculations with the CPU share and 30% in terms of graphics performance compared to the Apple A14 Bionic.

Compared to its predecessor, Apple also doubled the cache, took care of a new video decoder and encoder, ISP, i.e. the image processing module and the display engine.
