Miners using Hotspots and other devices to send and receive data transmitted from sensors and IoT devices can earn Helium tokens (HNTs) by proving that they have created wireless networks in the Proof of Coverage Challenges.

HNT tokens are used to generate Data Credits used for data transmission and token transaction fees.

The helium network runs on a blockchain infrastructure with a consensus protocol based on HoeyBadgerBFT.

Helium Hotspot: A low-cost hardware device that serves as both a miner and a wireless access point for the helium blockchain.

Proof of Coverage: A mining mechanism that uses radio waves to verify network coverage.

LongFi: It combines the Long-Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) wireless protocol with the Helium blockchain so that any LoRaWAN device can transmit data over the network.

Helium Hotspot, created and distributed by Helium, is a LoRaWAN wireless router. Similar to other LoRaWAN compatible devices in the network, the Helium Port creates a long-range wireless network to route packets to Helium-enabled devices and performs ongoing mining tasks to protect the Helium Network.

Helium Console

Helium Console is a web-based device management tool that allows developers to enroll, verify and manage their devices in the Helium network.
