which smartphones will be updated? The preliminary list

After the arrival of the Android 11 Developer Preview, the first lists of smartphones began to circulate online and will be updated to the next major release of the green robot. However, it is good to underline that, at the present time, almost all of the information is unofficial, as we are still far from the definitive launch (the Google roadmap talks about Q3 2020) and few manufacturers have confirmed the update for the own devices.
Despite this, we try to analyze the current situation based on the official confirmations released to date and on the most reliable rumors, to try to understand which smartphones will be updated to Android 11.

Android 11, the smartphones that will receive the update

Starting from the devices that will receive the update in an official or "unofficial" way, we cannot fail to mention Google Pixels. In fact, the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones have already received the first Developer Preview of Android 11 and, therefore, the updating them to the stable version. Going beyond the Californian company, there are several other brands that have already "promised" the arrival of the update. This is the case of POCO, a company that has recently "detached" from Xiaomi, which has confirmed the update to Android 11 for the POCO X2 smartphone.
Realme, however, has revealed that the update will be released for i X, XT, X2, X2 Pro, 5 Pro and 3 Pro models. In short, the Chinese company founded by Sky Li, former vice president of OPPO, seems to want to get serious with the updates.

In addition to this, completely surprisingly, Essential has announced support for Developer Preview 1 for its Essential Phone, despite the company navigating in bad waters. Put simply, the employees cared so much about the project that they wanted to give the "geek" users the chance to get Android 11 on their device anyway.
It's unclear if Andy Rubin's company will be able to release the update through OTA, but at least the most experienced fans will have the opportunity to get the next major release.

All devices for which various updates have been promised must also be taken into consideration. For example, we remind you that smartphones participating in Google's Android One program are "certified" to receive two years of updates to major releases. This means that if you have purchased an Android One device that has gone out from the second half of 2018 to today, your smartphone will likely receive Android 11.
To give you a concrete example, Xiaomi Mi A3, which received Android 10 in the last hours, was originally released in July 2019 and should therefore have the update to the next major release. Of course, given the precedents, do not expect quick times. In addition, we always advise you to wait for official confirmations, since in these cases the matter is a bit complex.

For the rest, the next Developer Preview will give us more information about the supported smartphones. In fact, usually these preliminary versions are also extended to devices other than Pixels, to allow developers to do all the necessary tests.
The next DPs, which we will not fail to try, are scheduled for March, April and May 2020, while the Beta phase will begin in June. The "highlight", when we start talking properly about Android 11, will probably be the2020 edition of Google I / O, which will be held May 12-14 in Mountain View (California).

Rumor and leak

Entering the field of rumor and leak, Samsung seems to be working onupgrade for S10 +. This means that, probably, smartphone owners of the S20, S10 and Note 10 families can sleep soundly. The same goes for those who own a folder like Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold, which the South Korean company is unlikely to leave off the list. More complex speech instead for the Galaxy A range, where Samsung could only select the most recent and performing models.
Turning to Huawei and Honor, there are only hypotheses: we all know that the two Chinese brands are not having a good time because of the ban immediately from the USA, but according to the latest rumors we can still expect an update for the main top of the range of the company, from the P30 family to Nova 5T, passing through the P40 range and the Mate XS leaflet.
Speaking instead of Xiaomi and Redmi, the first rumors are encouraging: it seems that the update can arrive on a wide range of devices, from Redmi Note 7 family up to the Mi 10 series. As for the other brands, OnePlus, Motorola, Sony, LG, Nokia and all the main manufacturers are also starting to think about the updates, but at the moment it is impossible to unbalance on the models involved.

In any case, as you have probably already guessed, it is still too early to draw up a real list of smartphones that will receive the update to Android 11. We are, in fact, in the first phase of testing. Do you think that, as we already told you in our test of the Developer Preview, at the moment the latest version of the green robot seems almost a "modified Android 10", rather than a major release. This is normal, as we are talking about a build designed to allow developers to become familiar with the new tools available to them.
Understand, therefore, that everything is still in the decision phase and that there may be variations even as regards the devices for which the update has been "promised". On the other hand, not even Google itself knows for sure when the stable version of Android 11 will be launched. At the moment, the Californian company has limited itself to estimating a possible release in Q3 2020.
