Wind turbine parts printing. The new General Electric plant is expected to make this possible

General Electric is looking to take the use of wind turbine parts printing to a new level after it has just opened a new 3D printing facility in New York State. They will conduct research to provide the world with new methods of 3D printing concrete foundations of wind turbines in order to reduce costs and accelerate the implementation of green energy.

General Electric has opened a new plant that will allow the printing of wind turbine parts

The hope for this kit is to develop ways to print concrete supports on wind farms, which will significantly reduce the costly transportation of precast concrete bases to individual installations. No wonder then that in the era of the move towards renewable energy, the research center is partially financed by a grant from the US Department of Energy.

We are proud to be working with GE Renewable Energy on this innovative 3D printing technology that has the potential to change the way this resource is used. With US on-site towers, we can cut costs, overcome logistical hurdles, and accelerate our goals

Said Alejandro Moreno, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Energy for Renewable Energy.

The on-site team of at least 20 people will be refining the technology to bring it to market, with first prints on site expected in around five years. The mere adoption of new technologies and innovations will be a key determinant of the US’s ability to meet the Biden administration’s climate goals of carbon-free electricity production by 2035 and a carbon-neutral economy by 2050.
