Xe-HP is not for everyone. Raja Koduri confirms the future of the new GPUs

It turned out that Intel, however, will not sell graphics cards with Xe-HP graphics processors as part of the Arctic Sound family. Originally, it was announced that they would reach both data centers and the hands of ordinary consumers, that is, the commercial market.

Intel will not bring Xe-HP to the market. He would leave those accelerators to himself

Consisting of three variants, containing 1, 2 and 4 silicon arrays, the family was officially unveiled in August 2020 and it took Intel all year to resolve that Xe-HP would not be for everyone, but only power Intel’s own servers. So it will not go anywhere outside the company’s operations, which means that Intel will conquer the graphics market with both the Xe-HPG family for games, i.e. consumers, and the Xe-HPC, which will power HPC devices, i.e. computing centers.

Previously, unofficial information indicated that, unlike the Xe-LP architecture available on Tiger Lake and DG1 GPUs with up to 96 EU, Xe-HP will provide up to 512 EU (execution units) per core. The weakest variant was to be the PCIe 4.0 compatible Intel Arctic Sound 1T card with a core limited to 384 execution units (EU) and combined with 16 GB of HBM2e memory.

A more powerful model was to be the 32-gigabyte for HBM2e Intel Arctic Sound 2T with two cores with a total of 960 EU, which translates into 7,680 shading units. This most efficient version with four matrices remained elusive, but based on this information from the Igor’sLAB, it’s easy to guess that it would offer a total of 15,360 shading units.
