XMG APEX 15: the first notebook with 16 core Ryzen 9 3950X | Price

XMG it's probably not the best known brand when it comes to laptops, however with the new one APEX notebook 15 has caught our attention as it is the first in its class to use an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processor, desktop solution from 16 cores / 32 threads presented last year at E3 in Los Angeles.

The German company is not the only one to offer mobile or desktop replacement workstations (because this is what it is), however, thanks to the characteristics of the 7nm Ryzen 3000, it has managed – at least on paper – to design a very powerful and above all versatile machine for gaming / productivity.

The system can obviously be configured with less powerful processors, but, looking at the price list, with just over 2,600 euros you can get your hands on a notebook to say the least remarkable. It should be noted that the Ryzen 9 3950X is used in ECO mode, that is with TDP set to 65W and frequencies ranging from 2.6 to 4.2 GHz, but it could not be otherwise since this CPU under normal conditions has a TDP of 105W.

The rest of the features are no different, starting from 15.6 "FHD IPS display and 144Hz refresh, moving on to RAM DDR4 3200 and to the storage subsystem with NVMe SSD up to 1TB; the graphics department is instead entrusted to one GeForce RTX 2070 or as an alternative to an RTX 2060 (probably MAX-Q).

As mentioned above, XMG APEX 15 can be configured with other Ryzen 3000 series processor models; the variant with 6-core Ryzen 5 3600 stands at around € 1,330, while the version with Ryzen 9 3950X, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD NVMe PCIe 3.0 and GeForce RTX 2070 costs 2,631 euros.
