The Hydra multi-guitar guitar combines four instruments into one

The steampunk instrument Hydra was commissioned by award-winning guitarist Steve Vai. Although these types of “multi-guitar guitars” are nothing new, a first glance at this exact design reveals that it is not something “just what”. However, not only in terms of appearance, which is to be “seductive” and even “soothing”.

After five years of working on the Hydra guitar, it was possible to combine a 7- and 12-string guitar, a 4-string bass and a 13-string symphonic harp. Such a 4in1 is complemented by a mix of single-coil pickups, a MIDI system and, above all, a steampunk design. It consists of … in fact, everything with three vacuum tubes, a power indicator, illuminated buttons and stylized knobs, sliders and switches, cogs, screws, antiqued metal plates, exposed cables and wires.
