Perhaps one of the least interesting announcements from Apple today was the Studio Display, Well, it is still a monitor, yes, very expensive. The company thus offers a Retina panel of 27 inches with a 5K resolution that translates into 5120 x 2880 pixels with a maximum brightness of 600 nits and one “wide color gamut (P3)” and the “true tone technology“. Basically don’t expect very detailed information beyond the reference modes it offers:

  • Apple screen (P3, 600 nights)
  • HDTV Video (BT.709-BT.1886)
  • NTSC Video (BT.601 SMPTE-C)
  • Video PAL and SECAM (BT.601 EBU)
  • Digital cinema (P3-DCI)
  • Digital Cinema (P3-D65)
  • Design and printing (P3-D50)
  • Photography (P3-D65)
  • Internet and web (sRGB)

Otherwise, it includes a six-speaker hi-fi system with force-canceling woofers supporting spatial audio and Dolby Atmos, set of three microphones with studio quality, high signal-to-noise ratio and directional beamforming technology, “Hey Siri” compatibility, integrates an ultra wide angle camera of 12 megapixels, gives access to 3x USB 3.0 ports + 1x Thunderbolt 3, the support can be adjusted in height and inclination, and goes on sale at a price of 1.779 euroso de 2.029 euros with the screen of “nanotextured glass“which further reduces reflections”.

Of course, now comes the funny thing about the Studio Display: from the factory it only supports tilt, if you want to adjust the height you have to pay an extra cost of 460 euros for the support that allows it. At least for the VESA mount they don’t charge you extra, and they include the famous 25 euro “cleaning cloth”, only if you buy the textured glass variant, of course.
