A Core i5-12400F plus B660 costs $80 less than an equivalent Ryzen 5 5600X plus B550

The first B660 motherboards are already appearing on the market, and we can start comparing the prices of AMD vs. Intel to see which one suits you best. As you may have seen in the title, when comparing a B660 plus a Core i5-12400F combo versus a B550 plus a Ryzen 5 5600X combo, surprisingly the Intel combo is much cheaper, as we can see below:

As we can see by visiting Newegg, the $179.99 Core i5-12400F plus the $189.99 B660M AORUS PRO gives us a total of $369.98 for the Intel combo, while the $189.99 Ryzen 5 5600X 288.99 plus the $159.59 B550M AORUS PRO gives us a total of $448.58. Thus, building the AMD combo is $78.60 more expensive than building the Intel combo, which also offers higher performance in most games and applications.

Other advantages of the Intel combo with this specific motherboard and CPU combination are that we will have 2.5Gbps Ethernet, support for two PCI-E 4.0 SSDs instead of one PCI-E 4.0 SSD plus one PCI-E 3.0 SSD, and support for to USB 3.2 Gen2x2, although we will not have Q-Flash Plus, a feature that the motherboard for AMD has. Obviously these advantages can vary with each motherboard, although comparing this specific combo, getting all these advantages and saving us $ 80 on top makes it a clear winner.

Unfortunately, the B660 motherboards have not yet arrived in Argentina to know their local price, although the CPUs did arrive. The Core i5-12400F is available from around $28,000 while the Ryzen 5 5600X does not drop below $39,000, so the difference is more than remarkable and even adding a slightly more expensive motherboard, the Intel combo will be the definitive option.

What do you think about the cost of this i5-12400F plus B660 combo? Are you planning to upgrade to Alder Lake now that we have cheaper CPUs and motherboards?
