Alleged AMD Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs with 16 and 8 Core Zen 4 Architecture Detected

AMD’s next-generation Zen 4 architecture Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs have reportedly been spotted on the MilkyWay@Home database.

The MilkyWay@Home project uses the BOINC platform to harness volunteer computing resources, creating a highly accurate three-dimensional model of the Milky Way. There are several systems with AMD and Intel CPUs offering their processing power to the project, but it looks like someone at AMD’s engineering labs might have put a Zen 4-powered Ryzen 7000 CPU to work.

According to BenchLeaks, two chips, the AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000665-21_N [Family 25 Model 96 Stepping 0] and the AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000666-21_N [Family 25 Model 96 Stepping 0] have been detected in MilkyWay@Home, the first one is a CPU with 16 cores, while the second one has only 8 cores.

According to BenchLeaks, the CPUID of these chips identifies them as AMD Raphael ES CPUs, so these are the first samples we’re seeing. While no other details are mentioned in the database, both CPUs have 1024KB of cache, that’s twice as much as the Ryzen 9 5950X which has a 512KB cache.

Assuming all this, it seems that the 16-core CPU would be the successor to the 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X, perhaps the Ryzen 9 7950X, while the 8-core CPU would be the successor to the Ryzen 7 5800X, perhaps the Ryzen 7 7800X?

If we talk about energy consumption, we have to take into account that we will have a TDP of up to 120W, and up to 170W that will fight head to head with Intel.

Who will wear the crown of “best gaming CPU in the world” in 2022?

In addition we will have access to a total of 28x PCI-Express 5.0 lines, support for AVX-512 instructions will be added, the integration of USB 4.0 connectivity natively.
