AMD announces third-generation Epyc processors with 3D V-Cache technology

AMD has just announced the launch of the third generation of Epyc processors arriving in data centers with 3D V-Cache technology. According to the company, the new products bring performance increases of up to 66% compared to its previous options and with CPUs that do not have the same solutions.

The third generation of Epyc processors with 3D V-Cache promises to bring the largest L3 cache available on the market, offering capacities of up to 768MB. According to the manufacturer, the new products will work with the same zocket, software compatibility, and CPU security solutions as the 3rd generation Epyc CPUs without the technology.

Introducing AMD EPYC™ Processors with AMD 3D V-Cache™ Technology

The new hardware promises great performance for areas such as technical computing, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), feature analysis (FEA), electronic design automation (EDA), and structural analysis. “These workloads are critical design tools for businesses that must model the complexities of the physical world to create simulations that test and validate engineering designs for some of the world’s most innovative products,” explains AMD.

New Epyc models with 3D V-Cache

  • EDA – 16 core AMD Epyc 7373X, promises up to 66% faster simulations in Synopsys VCS compared to Epyc 73F3.
  • FEA – 64-core AMD Epyc 7773X promises 44% better simulation performance on Altair Radios compared to other high-end CPUs.
  • CFD – AMD Epyc 7573X 32-core promises 88% more CFD troubleshooting efficiency per day compared to other 32-core CPUs running Ansys CFX.

AMD promises revolutionary performance increases

According to Dan McNamara, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Server Business Unit, the new 3D V-Cache technology promises to put AMD at the forefront of the enterprise segment. He says that the new technology enables the creation of better products that take less time to reach the market.

The launch comes in partnership with Micron, which reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-performance DDR5 memory for data centers. In addition to ensuring that AMD products are ready for its devices, the manufacturer has committed to bringing the new Epic CPUs with 3D V-Cache into its own data centers, which it says has resulted in 40% performance gains. .

According to AMD, the new CPUs allow business customers to reduce the number of servers they need, which translates into lower power consumption. A 32-core AMD Epyc 7573X 2P-based fabric can reduce the number of servers needed to perform 4.6 thousand daily tasks on Ansys CFX from 20 to 10, decreasing by 49%.
