AMD celebrates 5 years of Ryzen, confirms that Zen 3D and Zen 4 will arrive in 2022

AMD celebrated today 5 years since the announcement of Zen, and in addition to reviewing the history of the already released generations of Ryzen, also spoke about what the future of the line holds in 2022 with the arrival of Zen 3D and Zen 4.

AMD Ryzen™ Processors: 5 Years Later

The news about Zen 3D are not many: The main one is that it was confirmed that it will finally arrive in early 2022 instead of later this year as originally announced, confirming rumors of a delay due to insufficient stock. According to AMD itself, the addition of an L3 cache stacked on the Zen 3 DIE will increase performance by up to 15% at the same frequency, so it is expected that together with improvements in the frequency thanks to the optimizations of the process these processors deliver performance improvements of up to 20%, being an interesting option for those who want to stay in AM4, since this will be the last generation for this platform.

Zen 4 will arrive in late 2022, will feature PCI-E 5.0 and DDR5 on a new platform

AMD also confirmed that it will launch a new platform with a new socket at the end of 2022 to take advantage of the new DDR5 memory, and that contrary to what was previously indicated in the Gigabyte leaks, it will support PCI-E 5.0. The first processors for this platform will be based on Zen 4, and it was officially confirmed that all AM4 compatible heatsinks will also be compatible with this new platform, which is excellent news for those who want to upgrade.

We may hear more about Zen 3D and Zen 4 at CES 2022 in early January, as AMD usually makes their big announcements at that event, so we will have to wait another two months for all the information on these new architectures. We will keep you posted on all the news, so stay tuned to HD Tecnología.

What do you think about this news about the future of Ryzen that AMD revealed? Are you looking forward to the arrival of Zen 3D and Zen 4?
