AMD denies prioritizing miners over gamers in delivering its Radeon GPUs

During a recent interview, AMD CFO Devinder Kumar denied that the Radeon division’s revenue increases are due to mining, and clarified that supplying this market is not a priority for the company.

As Kumar explained, the profits from this sector of the market were minimal since the company designs its products for gamers and aims to sell them to gamers. The revenue increases are due to the Radeon RX 6000 becoming more competitive than previous series, and its new CDNA 2 computer cards are also being a hit on servers.

It is important to note that Kumar mentioned that there were gains in this market, even though they are minimal, which indicates that certain mining products were sold, even if they were in low quantity. Recall that both a GPU for mining based on Navi 21 and a GPU for mining based on the RX 6700M were already sighted, showing that AMD has some options to mine already in the market, and multiple PCI IDs were also added to the drivers that could correspond to a new line of specific GPUs for mining, although the latter is just a rumor that must be taken with a grain of salt since there is nothing concrete yet.

It will be interesting to see if Kumar’s sayings end up holding in the future, or if the rumors that AMD will launch an exclusive line to mine are true and gamers are no longer the only priority.

What do you think about these statements from AMD? Do you think they are true or if they had significant income from mining?
