AMD drove another console with its SoC chip

During the ChinaJoy trade fair, Zhongshan Subor presented its new product, which can initially be taken for a console. However, this is a computer powered by nothing but AMD’s SoC solution… we’ve already seen somewhere.

The computer is expected to go on sale at the end of August this year for almost 5,000 yuan (convert to US dollar), or about PLN 2,700. Of course, we will not be able to buy it, because its availability will be limited only to the Asian market, which is a pity, because the whole thing looks really good. Several USB ports, traditional connectors on the back of the equipment, and in addition a personalized operating system … such a connection would be a real treat for fans of unusual equipment. The main thing is sitting under the hood of a computer from ZhongShan Subor anyway.

Once again, AMD managed to create a special chip that just warmed up there. We are talking here about the aforementioned SoC chip, on board of which was the AMD Ryzen central processor, AMD Radeon Vega graphics chip and 8 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit bus. Their specification, i.e. 4 cores and 8 threads with a base clock of 3 GHz on the processor side and 24 CU blocks clocked at 1.3 GHz in the case of the GPU, may be a big hint for many. For fans of rumors and leaks, something is certainly dawning … oh yeah! This chip has too much to do with the AMD Fenghuang 15FF that beat Kaby Lake-G in graphical operations.

There, however, we were dealing with 28 CU blocks and 4 GB of integrated HBM2 memory instead of 8 GDDR5. So it looks like the SoC that powers the Zhongshan Subor hardware is a stripped down variation of AMD’s powerful APU. And so (according to the manufacturer) such a combination will provide adequate power for the VR goggles, so the performance looks great. Both support for DirectX 12, API Vulkan, Rapid Packed Math technology and AMD FreeSync.
