AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution in June. Will it also work on Nvidia and Intel GPUs?

According to rumors collected by the youtuber Coreteks, technology FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) di AMD which will allow you to play with a higher resolution and higher performance than traditional ones will debut at June.

In March, a representative of the US company said that the technology, seen by everyone as the response to Nvidia’s DLSS, would arrive within the year and that there was still work to be done. If it debuts in June we will have to deal with an unexpected acceleration.

Apparently AMD’s work would be done or nearly done, so much so that FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) would already be available to video game developers for implementation in their titles. The youtuber claims to have had confirmation of this fact from some developers, including a small studio.

According to what has been reported, the technology it will work very differently from DLSS which, implemented at the end of the graphic pipeline, involves the work of a neural network to arrive at the final result. In the case of FSR, we are basically talking about a super sampling algorithm to perform upscaling to a higher resolution with a minimum overhead, that is a performance impact. In this way, AMD will allow you to enjoy superior graphics quality and satisfactory performance, which is a bit like what DLSS does.

Coreteks states that all this requires minimal intervention from the developers and that although the performance appears good, there are currently no concrete numbers to make a comparison with the DLSS, also because there may still be some tweaks to the technology before the actual debut.

Technology should be agnostic, i.e. it is said that it should also work on GPUs from other manufacturers. On this point, however, it is good to wait for the official announcement, as AMD could change its mind to differentiate its graphics offer from that of Nvidia.

AMD has always tried as much as possible to create standard and open technologies, unlike its rival, it pushes a lot on the exclusivity of its technologies – such as DLSS. to sell GeForce cards. We will see what path AMD will take for FidelityFX Super Resolution, but if it were to opt for the same modus operandi as Nvidia there would be nothing wrong, it would be a completely understandable choice. If, on the other hand, she should opt not to put stakes, she should be applauded.

We just have to wait for more information, but remember that AMD CEO Lisa Su will be at Computex 2021 in early June and on that occasion he could also mention this technology.
