AMD FSR 2.1: Upscaling technology gets better, here are the changes

After introducing the excellent FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR 2.0) in mid-May, AMD announced another step forward with the former major update of upscaling technology called FSR 2.1.

Debuting with patch 1.7.1 for Farming Simulator 2022, the FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.1 includes “significant changes to certain parts of the algorithm“which return higher graphic quality thanks to the reduction of artifacts as the ghosting e lo shimmering. There is also talk of many small bugfixes.

The interventions carried out were detailed by AMD a this address. The company claims that upgrading from FSR 2.0 to 2.1 is relatively straightforward for developers, so we should see a series of updates in the coming weeks.

Finally, in addition to updating the source code, AMD has released a plugin update for Unreal Engine 4.26, 4.27 and 5 so that developers can integrate FSR 2.1 into titles without the hassle. FSR 2.0 upscaling technology is already available in about twenty games out of the 45 announced and its main quality does not vary: it is agnostic, meaning it can be used with NVIDIA GeForce or Intel Arc GPUs.
