AMD Radeon HD 7750 1 GB Mining: Hashrate | Benchmark| Is it good ?

AMD Radeon HD 7750 1 GB Mining: Hashrate/ Benchmark/ Is it good ?/Xubuntu Mining on the AMD Radeon HD 7750 video card in 2021. Continuing the topic of mining on budget video cards, this article discusses some features (attempts) of mining on the AMD Radeon HD 7750 1 GB video card.

In their youth (2012-2013), these cards mined most of the currently existing bitcoins, which does them credit. Now these are weak and outdated video cards with a very low computing potential, which, however, is sufficient for a very limited mining launch in February 2021. Considering their current bargain price (10-20 USD), it is interesting to see what they are capable of 9 years after the release.

Technical features of the AMD Radeon HD 7750 graphics card

The AMD Radeon HD 7750 1 GB graphics card is detected by amdcovc in Linux as a Cape Verde PRO (Radeon HD 7750/8740 / R7 250E) adapter. Despite the different names of the video cards, they are united by the same 28-nm GPU – Cape Verde Pro (Cape Verde Islands).

Radeon HD 7750/8740 / R7 250E has the following specifications (compared to Radeon R7 450 of the same architecture and Nvidia GT710/730 graphics cards). The comparison of these video cards is not entirely correct, since they belong to different segments of graphics accelerators (medium and low). But, given the two-year difference in the release date, they can well be opposed to each other.

AMD Radeon HD 7750 1 GB Mining: Specification

An analysis of the technical characteristics of the Radeon HD 7750 video card shows its superiority in floating point operations over the GT 710/730, despite the significant difference in age.

The computing power of AMD’s Cape Verde core surpasses that of Nvidia’s GK208 core. The memory bus performance of the HD7750 is also higher than that of the GT 710/730, although, given the small amount of memory in the AMD model, its leadership in this context is not indisputable.

Element base of the video card Radeon HD 7750 on the example of a model manufactured by Sapphire

The front of the Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 graphics board:

AMD HD 7750 video card chip marked 215-0825156:

The three power phases of the AMD HD 7750 video card work according to the 2+1+1 scheme (GPU, PLL, VRAM). The video processor phases (each with one P0703BK and two P0303BK MOSFETs) are controlled by the APW7098 PWM controller. All current for the video card is taken from the PCI-E slot.

Power phase drawn by MOSFET transistors P0603BDD (30V, 70A) and P0903BDA (30V, 56A) controlled by ANPEC APW7165C:

The APW7165C single-phase controller is also used to control the PLL’s power phase.

Since the APW7098 and APW7165C controllers do not support software voltage control, it will not work to downvolt the AMD HD 7750 graphics card without intervention at the hardware level.

Elpida’s GDDR5 memory modules marked W2032BBBG-60-F (4 x 256 MB chips) can operate at 6.0 Gbps, which is significantly (33%) higher than the reference 4.5Gbps:

Hashrate of the AMD Radeon HD 7750 video card when mining on algorithms relevant for 2021

Since the AMD Radeon HD 7750 graphics card has a small amount of memory, as well as an outdated architecture and a supported version of OpenCL, its set of algorithms for mining in 2021 is small – these are mainly variants of the Cryptonight family.

The hash rate on the cn_haven algorithm (BLOC.money coins, ) in xubuntu 18.04 on modern amdgpu-pro-20.20-1089974-ubuntu-18.04 drivers (without overclocking) in xmrig 6.8.1 is 39-40 h/s. In this case, the video card often gives compute errors:

In xubuntu 16.04 on 17.40 drivers, the hashrate is 5-10% higher and there are no such errors.

After starting mining on AMD Radeon HD 7750 on the CN Haven algorithm, computer consumption increases by 18 watts.

An example of a script for starting mining on the cryptonight-heavy/xhv (CN Haven) algorithm in the xmrig program:

#!/bin/sh

export GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR=1

export GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE=100

export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1

export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100

export GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT=100

sudo ./atitool -i=1 -fancontrol=35

./xmrig -a cryptonight-heavy/xhv -o cryptonight_haven.eu.mine.zergpool.com:4452 -u wallet -p c=BTC,worker,refcode=81de238596774683dd427a9d57bae6af -k --donate-level=0 --asm=auto --cpu-priority 0 --keepalive --opencl-devices=1 --opencl --no-cpu

sleep 10

Hashrate of the AMD Radeon HD 7750 video card on some algorithms:

  • CryptoNightR — 155 h/s (xmrig 6.8.1, xubuntu 18.04);
  • CryptoNightGPU — 49 h/s (xmrig 5.11.2, xubuntu 18.04);
  • CryptoNight Haven – 39 h/s (xmrig 6.8.1, xubuntu 18.04), on Windows 8.1 with Robinhood drivers – 24 h/s.

Unfortunately, the SRB Miner-Multi version on the AMD Radeon HD 7750 does not start, giving an error:

Error CL_INVALID_DEVICE when trying to get CL_DEVICE_GLOBAL_FREE_MEMORY_AMD for DeviceID 1 on platform 0

The latest versions of the SRB Miner-Multi program work on AMD video cards starting with R9 280 and higher, so the HD 7750 is not picked up. Teamredminer, VerthashMiner also do not support such old video card models.

Conclusion

An AMD Radeon HD 7750 video card with 1 GB of memory in 2021 can be used for at least minimally profitable mining (at a bargain price on electricity) only on CryptoNight family algorithms (for example, in the xmrig program). Video cards weaker (older) than HD 7750 can be considered from the point of view of mining for educational purposes only.

To get the most out of these video cards, you need to use the Linux operating system, preferably a distribution kit based on ubuntu 16.04.

The set of available mining programs is quite poor, since the GCN 1.0 architecture is already very outdated, so neither miner developers nor drivers pay attention to it.
