AMD reaffirms that Zen 4 and RDNA3 will arrive this year

Although AMD had already mentioned it on several occasions, the company reaffirmed during its latest earnings report that its processors based on the Zen 4 architecture and its graphics cards based on the RDNA3 architecture will arrive this year, providing peace of mind to users who expected these releases.

The statement came after talking about the big increases in revenue that the company experienced in 2021, and talking about what they expect from AMD for 2022:

Demand for our product is very high, and we look forward to another year of significant growth and stock gains as we ramp up our current production and launch the next wave of Zen 4 CPUs and RDNA 3 GPUs. We have also made significant investments to ensure the capacity necessary to support our growth in 2022 and beyond.

Expanding on this point about capacity, Lisa Su explained that in addition to the difficulty of getting chips from TSMC, the company has also been experiencing difficulties with many other suppliers, and that in the last four or five quarters they have been working hard on improving the supply chain. provision to improve the availability of its products. Work was also being done on the absorption of increases, since many products necessary for the manufacture of CPUs and graphics cards were increasing, and AMD was negotiating with its suppliers and sacrificing part of its income to absorb a little of these increases and not completely pass them on. to the end user, and will continue to do so throughout 2022 to try to improve the market situation as much as possible.

What do we know about RDNA3 and Zen 4?

While we still don’t know much about RDNA3-based GPUs, AMD did talk about its Zen 4-based products. On the consumer side, AMD will launch its AM5 platform with support for DDR5, PCI-E 5.0, and the new Ryzen 7000 based on Zen 4, completely revamping the I/O and significantly improving the processor architecture. In addition, on the server side, AMD will launch new EPYC processors not only with standard Zen 4 cores, but also with a variant called Zen 4c modified for cloud computing, where instructions that are not used in this area are removed to reduce the size of the cores and thus be able to insert more cores per DIE, reaching 128 cores per CPU.

Since all these products will only arrive in the last quarter of the year, it is likely that we will not hear much more about them at least until the end of May at Computex 2022 where we may see some demo, and then their announcement between the end of September and the beginning. October. You will have to be patient, although everything indicates that it will be worth it.
