AMD unveils Ryzen 4000 PRO processors for high-end business notebooks

After presenting the offer of APURyzen 4000 aimed at consumer laptops for small and medium-sized enterprises, AMD announced the solutions Ryzen 4000 PRO dedicated to the world of high-end business notebook. These new proposals will support the already known Ryzen 4000 U series, going to cover the need for larger or more structured companies, who want a machine park that can offer additional security features.

The foundations of this offer are the same as in the U series, that is 7-nanometer Zen 2 architecture and Vega integrated graphics. Compared to the previous Ryzen 3000 PRO range we have therefore a increase in the number of cores, with the transition from a maximum of 4 cores / 8 threads to 8 cores / 16 threads. All while maintaining a TDP of 15 watts.

According to AMD, the step forward in terms of performance from the best exponent of the last generation Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U to the new top of the range Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U sensitive: single-thread performance increases by around 30%, while multi-core performance by around 130%. Graphics power increases approximately 13%. With the Office suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), AMD indicates performance improvements between 20% and 77% depending on the type and workload.

As for the comparison with Intel competition, AMD claims that the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U (8 cores / 16 threads) averages 10% to 30% faster than the Core i7-10710U (6 cores / 12 threads) in several typical loads. Intel's mobile offering stops at the moment for Comet Lake-U CPUs with up to 6 cores.

The Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U (6 cores / 12 threads) looks even faster, based on some tests done by AMD comparing it with the Core i5-10210U (4 cores / 8 threads), while the gap with the Core i7-10510U similar to that between the 4750U and 10710U. The Ryzen 4000 PRO, according to AMD, allow notebook manufacturers to pack laptops (equipped with Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U) with an autonomy of more than 20 hoursso I'm able to guarantee a full working day.

There are some new business laptops on the market, both with the Ryzen 4000 CPU U series and with the brand new PRO models. In the first case HP ready to offer ProBook x360 435 G7 and ProBook 445/455 G7. On the PRO front we find four new Lenovo products called ThinkPad T14 Gen1, ThinkPad T14s Gen1, ThinkPad X13 Gen1 and ThinkPad L14 / 15 Gen1.

Distinctive trait of the new APU Ryzen 4000 PRO a set of fundamental security technologies: AMD PRO Security, AMD PRO Manageability and AMD PRO Business Ready, which are the equivalent of Intel vPro technologies (Intel vPro Security, Intel Active Management Technology and Intel Stable Image Platform Program).

AMD PRO Security offers additional security layers to help protect your sensitive data, i.e. solutions such as AMD Memory Guard (whole memory encryption) and compatibility with the Windows 10 Secured Core PC features, designed to protect your PC boot, the Windows kernel and more. Add to this the full compatibility with additional security measures offered by individual partners, such as HP Sure Start or Lenovo ThinkShield.
