At the moment, it is better to hold off installing Windows on Steam Deck

As expected and announced, Valve has allowed Steam Deck users to install other systems on their “mobile computer”. However, it is worth staying on the original SteamOS and refraining from installing Windows on Steam Deck. Why? About it below.

Installing Windows on Steam Deck may not be a good idea for everyone

Steam Deck is a completely new equipment on the market and it can be said that it is unique in the entire technological underworld. This is due, inter alia, to to its SoC, which Valve developed together with AMD, combining the Zen 2 architecture with RDNA2 in the first such combination available on the market. Let’s add a non-standard form of the device to this and voila, we get equipment for which you have to edge the drivers anew.

While Valve managed to do it on the proprietary SteamOS (currently version 3.0), the company could not provide the same on Windows 10. Currently, Steam Deck does not have support for 11 due to the lack of fTPM, but this will also be solved in the future with an appropriate update. On the Microsoft system, we can find drivers for GPU, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but the same cannot be said about the speakers and the 3.5 mm jack port.

This means that only a Bluetooth or USB-C kit can provide audio, which clearly shows a deficiency at the Steam Deck-Windows level, but fortunately Valve already provides access to the SteamOS ISO that can be downloaded and reinstalled on the handheld.
