Chrome and Firefox 100 can break some websites

Both Chrome and Firefox will soon get their “hundredth” versions. Of course, they will bring with them some novelties that the browser companies haven’t mentioned yet, but along with hundred there will also be a problem.

Chrome i Firefox w wersji 100

The current version of Google Chrome is 98, while Firefox is 97. The companies responsible for them sped up the publishing cycle some time ago, so we are very quickly approaching the hundredth version of both browsers. It turns out that, contrary to appearances, the number next to the name is more important than just informative. The websites that we open on the Internet take this number into account, and because it will already consist of three digits, problems can arise.

The problem is that some websites may not be able to read the user intensifier with the three digit string of numbers in it. It may happen that websites read only the first two characters and instead of Chrome 100, they see Chrome 10. As a result, this may lead to a situation in which we are unable to open the page.

Google and Mozilla are already taking steps to avoid these problems. How? Mozilla wants to identify such sites to “freeze” Firefox 99 for them. Google, on the other hand, plans to keep the first digits at 99, and the actual browser number would be included in the rest of the characters. E.g. 99.101.4988.0 for Chrome 101.
