Coinhive miner mines 1,300 Monero coins per month

While miners are experiencing not the best time for themselves, the Coinhive miner is doing very well. According to the results of a new study by German experts, the XMR browser miner is even used very actively today.

During the spring research period, which lasted 4 weeks, the Coinhive miner mined 1,300 Monero coins (about $ 250,000 at those prices). At today’s rate, this is about $ 110,000, which is still quite a significant amount.

Coinhive mines about 1.18% of all Monero blocks. The miner’s team has 30% of all mined coins. A team of experts state that almost all commission coins are sent to the wallets of a small group of people.

Analyzing the Coinhive miner, experts from the Rhine-Westphalian Technical University of Aachen (Germany) checked 1,000,000 sites from the Alexa top, as well as the .com, .net and .org domain zones for the presence of the miner. They found that this software is present on these sites, but its popularity is low, only 0.08% of the total number of sites.

The No Coin extension, which is available in popular browsers, did not satisfy them and they used an alternative method to identify the browser miner based on the Webassembly fingerprint, and found that 80% of infected websites were not detected by popular blockers. The research team concluded that the miner is considered the largest web miner, accounting for 75% of the market.

Recall that in June, Palo Alto Networks researcher Josh Grunzweig studied This situation was confirmed by the fact that about 5% of the total amount of Monero coins were mined using malware.

More recently, it was reported that hundreds of thousands of users who did not manage to install the new security patch for MikroTik routers became unwitting victims attackers who mined Monero cryptocurrency using the Coinhive miner.
