From AMD 3 new Radeon PRO video cards for Mac Pro systems, even with dual GPUs

AMD announced the availability of 3 new professional video cards from the Radeon PRO W6000X series, specifically intended for coupling with systems Apple Mac Pro and not available for integration into other types of workstation systems. The Radeon PRO W6800X Duo model stands out in particular, a proposal that as the name suggests is based on dual GPU architecture.

The board Radeon PRO W6900X integrates GPU with 80 compute units and 5,120 stream processors, combined with a 256bit wide memory bus with a total of 32GB of video memory. 128 MB of Infinity Cache are integrated into the GPU, for a processing power in FP32 equal to 22 TFLOPs.

Model Radeon PRO W6800X it is instead equipped with GPU with 60 compute units and 3,840 stream processors; the memory interface and the onboard quantity do not change compared to the Radeon PRO W6900X card while the processing power in FP32 reaches 16 TFLOPs.

To close we find the card Radeon PRO W6800X Duo, model that combines two GPUs on the board for a total of 120 compute units and 7,680 stream processors. The memroia interface is 256bit for each of the two GPUs and from this derives a total amount of video memory of 64GB divided into two 32GB blocks for each GPU. The processing power reaches a peak of 30.2 TFLOPs, almost double that offered by the Radeon PRO W6800X card: in fact this Duo is corresponding to two W6800X cards, with a slightly lower clock frequency so as to keep consumption within the range. 400 Watts at TDP (300 Watts for the other two cards).

Looking at the technical specifications it emerges that the Radeon PRO W6900X card is based on the same GPU adopted by AMD for the Radeon RX 6800XT desktop card; for the Radeon PRO W6800X model, on the other hand, the Radeon RX 6800 card is the equivalent proposal in the consumer desktop segment. These boards are developed with MPX connector, specific to Apple Mac Pro solutions; these workstations can host up to 2 cards equipped with an MPX connector, therefore it is possible to configure a version with up to 4 GPUs in parallel by placing two Radeon PRO W6800X Duo cards side by side.
