Cryptocurrency mining ETH and ZEC on the GTX 1060
This model uses Samsung’s faster GDDR5 memory, which makes the card attractive from the point of view of the popular mining crypto algorithms Equihash and Ethash. We wanted to test the performance in mining ETH and ZEC, despite the fact that the GTX 1060 memory bus is only 192 bits, and this turned out to be a very limiting factor. The question is how the GTX 1060 will be able to compete with the GTX 1070, which uses a slower GDDR5 memory, overclocked to 8GHz (that is, to the standard frequency in the GTX 1060), although the 256-bit bus and a significantly higher number of CUDA cores .
Regarding the performance in Ethereum mining (ETH) using the latest miner Claymore ETH, we were unhappy – only 17 MHS at the factory settings. Although, considering the 192-bit bus, we were expecting a worse result, but we hoped that the overclocked memory compensated for the losses. The GTX 1070 gave approximately 25 MHS at the factory settings, but performance can be increased by overclocking the memory. Overclocking of the GTX 1060 9Gbps helped a little, but the figures still could not pass for 19 MHS.

The Zcash mining situation (ZEC) turned out to be better – about 300 Sol / s at factory settings using the miner EWBF ZEC for the GTX 1060 9Gbps card, while the GTX 1070, of course, showed a much better result – above 400, up to 450 460. It seems that 9 GB of memory in the GTX 1060 does not really affect the performance of mining, and the map is more suitable for games. Considering that the cost of the GTX 1060 9Gbps is not much higher than the GTX 1070, in principle, there is no point in chasing with a large amount of memory, since the performance of a video card differs slightly.
