Just as we thought we knew exactly what the Nvidia Turing generation would be like, a new rumor suggested that the company might ditch the canonical GTX for the next generation of graphics cards.

Nvidia is presumably opting for a new RTX brand for the upcoming Turing family of graphics cards, according to an unnamed source from AdoredTV. One tech YouTuber confirms his claims, noting that Nvidia recently registered the GeForce RTX and Quadro RTX.

The current theory behind the naming of RTX leans towards Nvidia adopting Raytracing technology, which until now has only been available on extremely expensive Volta-based supercomputers.

AdoredTV also claims that its source said the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 will be 8% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti and 50% faster than the GTX 1080. The new Titan GPU is also expected to be 15% faster than the Titan V. , and 50% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti.

We should note that new rumors are coming from a little-known source, with most of the rumors pointing to Nvidia 11-series GPUs. Rumors include a screenshot of the Aida 64 that surfaced earlier this week and also confirmed the existence of an Nvidia GTX 1180, although this model’s graphics cards are known to run on GV104 Volta cores.

Rumors of another episode are hard to believe right now, so we’re skeptical. Fortunately, we will be able to move away from speculation very soon, as we are due to see the Nvidia GeForce Gaming Celebration at Gamescom later in August this year.
