GeForce RTX 3060 with RTX 3070 core confirmed by Gainward and Galax

It was Gainward and Galax that confirmed that the GeForce RTX 3060 with the RTX 3070 core is not some small-series product, but one that requires an appropriate presentation and premiere. So in China, GeForce RTX 3060 officially became available not with GA106 GPUs, but with GA104.

NVIDIA has implemented a supply recovery plan for the RTX 3060. At least in China, where the RTX 3060 reaches for the GA104 core

The case is not completely new, because already that week we learned that custom GeForce RTX 3060 cards are being made, which instead of GA106-300 cores, reach for GA104-150. In both versions, there are 3584 CUDA cores, but these are processors of a completely different class, because the GA104-150 in this release has a whole 42% of deactivated cores, measuring 392 mm², while the GA106 7% at 276 mm², and their TDP is 290 and 170 watts respectively. We expect that these two differences between them could be the biggest problems.

However, it happened – the first GeForce RTX 3060 with the RTX 3070 core have already hit the Chinese market and we do not know if they will go beyond it. I am talking about cards with the annotation G for Gainward and FG for Galax, whose PCBs remain unknown. No matter what, this type of traffic has the potential to improve the availability of the RTX 3060, which has dropped significantly since the beginning of September.

Merely reusing higher-end GPUs in weaker models is nothing new. Often, companies decide to do this after they have built up a large stock of low-quality cores that leave the production lines. They are not normally able to drive the target models and therefore require core truncation for the weaker ones.
