Intel 13th Gen Raptor Lake desktop CPUs will feature up to 68MB of L2/L3 cache

There is really no way of knowing if this is the CPU Raptor Lake top of the range for now, so it makes no sense to talk about a model. The thing is, it is clear that the supposed screenshot shows a CPU with 8 large cores and 16 small cores.

Intel’s 13th Gen CPUs will have a new microarchitecture, called Raptor Cove. While the number of these cores will not change during a generation, each core is said to feature more cache. This would be confirmed by the following screenshot:

Recall that the 12th Gen Alder Lake CPUs have 1280 KB of L2 cache and 3072 KB of L3 cache for each Golden Cove/Performance core. The hybrid architecture also features up to two groups of Gracemont/Efficient quad cores. Each of those clusters is connected to 2048 KB of L2 cache and 3072 KB of L3 cache.

So in the CPU-Z software screenshot we see a configuration of caches L1, L2 and L3. Apparently it is confirmed that the L2 cache that is in the third row, you will get 2MB for each large core and 4MB for a group of small cores. This model would include four such clusters and a combined number of 16 small cores. This configuration equates to 32 MB of L2 cache and, combined with 36 MB of L3, gives a total cache of 68 MB, which is 24 MB more than Alder Lake.

So with this in mind, Raptor Lake’s successor codenamed Meteor Lake should offer a smaller 3 MB L2 cache for a small core pool (Crestmont). However, we still don’t know what desktop chip configurations are planned.
