Intel is building a $700 million research lab focused on immersion cooling

Intel recently announced that it will invest in building more sustainable data centers. The Santa Clara chipmaker will spend more than $700 million to build a 200,000-square-foot research and development facility.

The Intel lab is will be tasked with addressing areas such as heat reuse, immersion cooling, and water use effectiveness.

This Intel lab will test and qualify your data center products under the Xeon and Optane brands, as well as Intel Agilex FPGA and Xe architecture products. Customers and partners will also be able to visit the lab and see Intel products in action in data center environments to determine if they would be a good fit for their own operations.

On the Jones Farm campus in Hillsboro, Oregon will begin construction of the lab later this year, with completion expected in late 2023.

Who has also presented reference designs and solutions with liquid cooling by immersion is Team Blue. With this move, Intel hopes to simplify and accelerate the deployment of its liquid immersion cooling solutions globally.

A little over a year ago, Microsoft announced that it was testing a two-stage immersion cooling solution to keep servers from overheating so Intel won’t. is the only major technology company interested in immersion liquid cooling

The initial proof of concept is being developed in partnership with Intel Taiwan and will be rolled out locally in phases before expanding to other markets.
