The NVIDIA RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 dominate in the latest Steam poll

Another month that passes another Steam survey that arrives. Valve’s monthly report on the hardware and software found on users’ PCs shows that May was another excellent period for Nvidia’s Ampere graphics cards, with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 as the two best performing cards. AMD also had reason to celebrate, as the Radeon RX 6800 XT became the latest RDNA 2 card to join the main GPU roster.

In May, users of the RTX 3080 card increased by 0.24% on Steam. Then we have the RTX 3070 with an increase of +0.19%, while the RTX 3060 is in fourth place with +0.18%. Joining the green team in the top ten cards list was the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which entered with a 0.15% share. It now sits alongside the other RDNA 2 cards, Radeon RX 6600, Radeon RX 6600 XT, Radeon RX 6700 XT, and Radeon RX 6900 XT, in the main draw, all seeing increases in participation.

The ten most popular graphics cards remain unchanged from April. The GTX 1060 GPU added users last month, cementing its place at the number one position it has held for more than four years.

The rise in the number of people using the latest cards from Nvidia and AMD reflects the industry’s long-awaited return to near-normal. Cards are getting closer to the MSRP (launch) price as availability improves and crypto mining becomes less attractive.

Dr. Lisa Su is also likely to smile at the CPU chart. As AMD again gained a slice of the pie, slowly but surely closing the gap to Intel with another 1.24% increase in users. However, the Blues still have a considerable advantage, thanks to their 67.19% share.

Windows 11 is only 0.41% away from being found on the PCs of one in five users. More than half of the participants have 16 GB of RAM in their PCs and a quarter of them have video cards with 8 GB of VRAM. Meanwhile, the Oculus Quest 2 is within 2% of a 50% share of the VR headset segment.
