Its Game Pass rival would be made up mostly of classic games

According to the latest industry rumours, “Project Spartacus“, the codename of the service playstation that seeks to rival Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, it would be very close to being officially launched.

Saving the differences, it is indicated that this service will be exclusive for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 usersso it will not reach PC as its rival does.

“It’s probably getting closer to its actual launch, which is probably going to happen at the end of this month and I don’t think that means necessarily publicly, I think in terms of the internal milestone of where the service has to be,” said Jeff Grubb, writer at VentureBeat.

These reports also indicate that there will be three subscription levels, where the cheapest of all will have a starting price of $10 per month while the most expensive will cost 16 dollars.

“Right now they’re called ‘Essential’, ‘Extra’ and ‘Premium’. The price, again, could be a placeholder, but the price is $10/month for Essential, $13/month for Extra, and $16/month for Premium.”

For comparison, Xbox Game Pass currently offers three tiers, the Ultimate, which costs $14.99 per month and offers access to EA Play and xCloud to console, PC, and mobile users. Level PC Game Pass It costs $9.99 and is only playable on PC. The last and third level is the Xbox Game Pass for the console, which costs $9.99 per month and offers access to the Game Pass library, but not EA Play games or cloud access.

In the case of Project Spartacusthe $16 Premium tier might offer full access to PlayStation First-Party titles and the ability to play via streamingalthough it is indicated that a large part of the catalog of games that will be offered will be classic titles, which would presumably be old titles. Of course, once you stop paying, you could not access any of these games.

“For the Premium tier, $16 a month…do you get full games? Not really, more or less…it’s like EA Play. You get full trial games. I don’t know if that’s for every game that comes out, but it seems so.” Grubb said.

“You also have classic games and streaming, none of the other levels will have cloud streaming, you also have classic games.”

“I don’t know what classic games mean, but I do know that it’s an important part of this Premium tier. So you get game trials, classic games and streaming on this premium tier. For the Extra tier, you get a ‘game catalog downloadable’ anything on PSNow that was downloadable, it seems like it would be here. There’s no cloud streaming, but there are 300 downloadable games.”
